I'm rather proud of my business name, as it signifies most accurately all of the muses which my artistry draws from. The Phoenix, which is a common conquering subject in various legends and mythologies, is quite a popular character and concept in modern art and design, and I can certainly understand why. Who doesn't love a classic story of overcoming, rising from the ashes, and burning bright in victory for all to see? Makes your inner cheerleader leap up and squeal a little bit, doesn't it? The phoenix is certainly a symbol of hope and perseverance, which I strive to reflect in my work.
My imagination takes hold as I think about a single quill from the phoenix bird...what would it be like? What purpose would it serve? No doubt it would be flaming HOT! A real Phoenix Quill would be an incredible sight to behold...blazing trails and making statements, reminding us that even in the pitfalls of failure, there is always hope to be found in the ashes and we have a CHOICE to RISE from that destruction. There is always an opportunity to think outside of the box, to formulate solutions, & to create a profound beauty from the ashes...
So, continuing in that theme of thought, I must say in all seriousness, that pyrography has been somewhat of a saving grace for me throughout the years. I won't go into details about my trials and tribulations, but as I'm sure most people know (through their own personal life experiences), LIFE AIN'T EASY. As a matter of fact, life can be downright difficult, frightening, confusing, hopeless, and yes, even life threatening!
All of this, just to say, that I love and appreciate the artform in so many ways. The relaxing aroma of smoky pinewood throughout the house, the gratification of working with natural elements such as wood and leather, and the overwhelming responses from recipients of my work have truly made my life worthwhile. Creating works of art is my purpose in life, and I am sincerely passionate about my life's work as an artist. So passionate in fact, that I can easily sit in my studio with my "quill" for hours upon hours, never realizing that the day has completely passed me by, and as a result, I've enveloped my soul in a haven of creativity, solitude, and regeneration.
